Africa’s first green ironworks, the Oshivela plant in Namibia, has signed an offtake agreement with German metals processing firm Benteler for 200,000 tonnes a year of hydrogen-reduced iron.
The plant is due to start operations of its first phase, which will produce 15,000 tonnes per year, in early 2025. However, it is also scheduled to expand to 200,000 tonnes a year in 2026 and two million tonnes a year in 2030.
Hydrogen Insight has reached out to Benteler to confirm when the first deliveries of iron are due to begin.
