ISLAMABAD: Bangladesh has purchased 25,000 tons of high-quality sugar, which will reach Chittagong Port (Bangladesh) from Karachi Port next month.
According to officials, the Pakistani sugar industry is sending its production to brotherly country Bangladesh in such a large quantity after many decades. The price of sugar in the international market on Monday, December 2, reached $530 per ton.
Earlier, Bangladesh has been importing sugar from India. The Pakistan sugar industry made deals of more or less 600,000 tons of sugar this year with the approval of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
Of this, 70,000 tons would be sent to Central Asian states. Thailand has purchased 50,000 tons of sugar from the Pakistan sugar industry. According to Majid Malik, an official of Pakistan sugar dealers, Gulf states, Arab countries and African countries have also signed agreements to purchase sugar from Pakistan.
Pakistan will earn $400-500 million from sugar exports. In this way, the Pakistan sugar industry has become a major foreign exchange earner for the country, because the country would export sugar after the new crushing season next year with the approval of PM Shehbaz Sharif.
With the joint efforts of the country’s political and military leadership, the sugar industry is also successfully exporting the sugar that was previously smuggled through Afghanistan to Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan, and Azerbaijan. More than 80 sugar mills in Pakistan had started sugar production on Monday, December 2, 2024.
