The 250MW H2-Fifty project in the Netherlands, described by co-developer BP as “one of Europe’s largest green hydrogen production facilities”, is on hold until the Dutch government finishes transposing the EU’s updated Renewable Energy Directive (RED III) into law.
A spokesperson for the project’s other co-developer, HyCC, told Hydrogen Insight that the company is particularly waiting to see how the government will legislate around the use of green hydrogen to meet the target for 1% of transport fuels to be renewable fuels of non-biological origin (RFNBOs) by 2030.
Dutch environment minister Chris Jansen had last October proposed a “correction factor” for credits claimed on green hydrogen used in oil refining rather than directly in fuel cells or combustion engines, which would reduce the value by 60%.
