Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu will lay the foundation stone of the state’s first 1 MW capacity green hydrogen plant in the Dabhota area of Nalagarh on February 5.
With a proposed investment of Rs 8 crore, the plant is a joint venture of HP Power Corporation Limited and Government of India’s Public Sector Undertaking, Oil India Limited. The HP Power Corporation Limited is providing land as its equity share.
The project will produce high purity green hydrogen which will be used as an industrial fuel.
It will be a crucial step in state government’s mission of making Himachal a green energy state by March 31, 2026. The demand for green hydrogen is rising across industries as it offers a clean alternative to fossil fuels, particularly in sectors like transportation, manufacturing and energy storage.
By producing green hydrogen with zero carbon emissions, the project will play a crucial role in de-carbonising industries and energy systems, thereby contributing to environmental conservation. Notably, green hydrogen significantly reduces the emission of pollutants such as nitrogen oxides, sulfur oxides and particulate matter, which improves air quality and protects ecosystems. The plant is expected to assume operations by the year end.
