CPI-M demands modernisation of Govada Sugar factory

CPI-M State secretary V. Srinivasa Rao has alleged that the State government failed to protect the Govada Sugar factory, which is the only remaining sugar factory in the cooperative sector in Andhra Pradesh. He wondered why Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu, who was chanting the ‘Ease of Doing Business’, failed to take measures for modernisation of Govada Sugar factory.

The CPI-M State secretary toured Anakapalli district as part of the party’s Praja Chaitanya Yatra on Monday. He met workers, farmers, who supply sugarcane to the plant, and asked about the problems faced by them. He demanded that the State government should extend ₹35 crore to the plant as immediate assistance and an additional ₹350 crore for its modernisation.

Mr. Srinivasa Rao questioned the failure of Anakapalli MP CM Ramesh, who claims to have a good rapport with the Prime Minister, in taking up the issue with Mr. Narendra Modi. He ridiculed the MP for making several rounds to Delhi for the establishment of the Arcelor Mittal Steel Plant, while failing to take notice of the crisis in Govada Sugar factory. The CPI leader demanded that the State government, local MP and MLAs should take steps for protection of the plant, failing which the CPI-M would launch an agitation.

CPI-M State secretariat member K. Lokanadham spoke on the contribution of the sugar factory to the economy of the region.

Party leaders G. Koteswara Rao, D. Venkanna and R. Sankara Rao were among those who participated in the programme.
