'Europe’s overly strict definition of green hydrogen is holding back the German market': E.ON

“The ramp-up of the hydrogen economy in Germany remains weak,” declared utility E.ON in the latest publication of its H2-Bilanz (“H2-Balance”) analysis based on data from the Institute of Energy Economics at the University of Cologne (EWI).

Since the last H2-Bilanz was released in April this year, the proportion of green H2 projects under development in Germany that have reached a final investment decision (FID) or started construction has risen from 3% to just 9%.

Similarly, E.ON notes that the scale of the overall pipeline of projects that could start operations by 2030 has only increased from 10.1GW to 11.3GW since February.
