EXCLUSIVE | World’s largest green hydrogen project in China only produced about 35% of expected output in first year of operation

The world’s largest installed green hydrogen project — Sinopec’s 260MW Kuqa facility in northwest China — only produced about 35% of its expected output in its first 12 months of operation, according to the Chinese oil giant’s own internal newspaper.

The article — published to coincide with the first anniversary of Kuqa’s start-up — says that “more than 7,000 tonnes” of green hydrogen were produced in the first year — a far cry from the 20,000 tonnes that were promised.

All of the output is being delivered by pipeline to Sinopec’s own Tahe refining and chemicals facility.
