Godavari Biorefineries signs pact with Catalyxx to enhance ethanol

Ethanol player Godavari Biorefineries Ltd (GBL) on Monday (December 2) said it has signed an international licence agreement with Catalyxx Inc., granting the company exclusive rights to utilise Catalyxx's advanced technology for converting ethanol into biobutanol and other higher alcohols.

"...is pleased to announce the signing of a strategic international license agreement with Catalyxx Inc. This partnership grants GBL exclusive rights to leverage Catalyxx’s cutting-edge technology for the conversion of ethanol to for up to 30,000 tons of biobutanol and other higher alcohols," Godavari Biorefineries said in a regulatory filing.

As part of this partnership, GBL will establish and operate a cutting-edge facility aimed at producing 15,000 tonnes of biobutanol and other higher alcohols annually in the first phase.

"Godavari will in the first phase, construct and operate a state-of-the-art facility designed to produce 15,000 metric tons of biobutanol and higher alcohols annually, marking a significant milestone in the company’s commitment to decarbonisation and sustainability," Godavari Biorefineries said.

The new biobutanol plant will position GBL at the forefront of the global bio-based chemicals market, enhancing its product portfolio with eco-friendly solutions derived from renewable resources.

This collaboration also supports the broader green transition, reflecting a shared commitment between Godavari Biorefineries and Catalyxx to drive innovation and sustainable practices across industries.

Shares of Godavari Biorefineries Ltd ended at ₹345.30, down by ₹8.35, or 2.36%, on the BSE.
