LONGi Hosts High-Level Forum in Algeria: Synergy of Solar and Hydrogen Energies Charts a New Green Future

LONGi hosted the high-level symposium “Green Forum: LONGi Empowering a Sustainable Future for Algeria” at the Hyatt Regency Algiers. The forum brought together over a hundred participants including representatives from the Ministry of Energy, top research institutions and university scholars, local business leaders, and international experts. They engaged in in-depth discussions on photovoltaic technology innovation and the coordinated development of the green hydrogen industry, injecting new impetus into the energy transition in North Africa.

Long-termism Empowers Differentiated Transformation

In his opening remarks, Mr. James Jin, President of LONGi’s Middle East and Africa Region, stated: “LONGi has always adhered to the development concept of ‘long-termism’, and through technological innovation and differentiated high-efficiency BC products, customized scene solutions, and ‘PV+’ value-added services, it has deeply participated in Algeria’s energy transformation. Relying on the dual-engine drive of ‘green electricity + green hydrogen’, it helps the local area build a low carbon energy system, cultivate the resilience of the local industrial chain, and achieve a win-win situation of sustainable development and economic benefits.”

The collaboration among government, industry, academia and research institutions is jointly promoting the implementation of transformation. The forum focuses on “technology-driven, industrial collaboration, and local win-win”, building a multi-party

dialogue platform. Dr. Chikhi Mourad, Renewables Energies Director, Minister of Energy and Mines and Renewables energies, said in his opening remarks: “This seminar will accelerate the implementation of the ‘photovoltaic-hydrogen synergy’ model and promote the optimization of the energy structure and industrial upgrading.”

At the event, LONGi signed a cooperation memorandum with the National Higher Institute of Renewable Energy, Environment and Sustainable Development. The two sides will conduct in-depth cooperation in areas such as training and R&D. It is expected that over the next five years, they will cultivate more than a thousand renewable energy professionals for Algeria. A module donation ceremony was held at the event. LONGi donated the latest Hi-MO 9 module to the institute to support the building of the school’s laboratory. Professor Leila Mokhnache, the director of Higher National School Of Renewable Energies, Environment & Sustainable Development emphasized: “Deep cooperation among industry, academia and research is the core path to cultivating local energy talents. We and LONGi will jointly focus on PV technology R&D and green hydrogen application, and build a sustainable green talent supply chain for Algeria.”

At the event, BC technology is widely recognized. LONGi’s product and solution experts showcased the new generation of high efficiency Hi-MO 9 modules on-site, which adopt the HPBC 2.0 technology and have a conversion efficiency of up to 24.8%. They also possess excellent high-temperature resistance, wind and sand resistance, and low degradation performance. Compared with TOPCon technology, Hi-MO 9 demonstrates stronger power generation capacity and lower system costs in the Algerian desert environment, making it an ideal clean energy solution for North Africa.

In terms of green hydrogen, LONGi Hydrogen experts proposed LONGi’s “green electricity + green hydrogen” integrated solution, ensuring the sustainable development of energy transformation technology and energy export economy in Algeria through photovoltaic hydrogen production. Experts at the conference stated that “green electricity green hydrogen” can fully utilize Algeria’s advantages in solar resources, land, and ports, and is expected to turn the country into a green hydrogen export hub in North Africa.

Two roundtable discussions were held during the forum, inviting representatives from the Ministry of Energy, research institutions, EPC enterprises and energy experts to jointly explore the strategic value of photovoltaic projects and the industrialization path of green hydrogen. The guests unanimously agreed that benchmark projects should be used to lead the development of the local supply chain and accelerate the realization of large-scale installations; at the same time, focus on the two key issues of “low-cost hydrogen production” and “cross-border hydrogen transmission infrastructure” to provide a path reference for building a regional green hydrogen hub in Algeria.

With light as the medium, hydrogen paves the way for the future. As the summit came to a successful conclusion, James stated that the realization of a zero-carbon North Africa requires persistent technological innovation. In the next five years, LONGi will continue its strategy plan in Algeria, leveraging technological innovation and open cooperation to join hands with partners in accelerating the layout of “green electricity + green hydrogen” in Algeria and jointly building the beautiful vision of a “zero-carbon North Africa”.
