Hyderabad: Agriculture minister Tummala Nageswara Rao directed officials to open procurement centers at the Nizamabad agriculture market to facilitate the direct purchase of turmeric from farmers by paying the minimum support price.
In a statement, he announced that a letter had been sent to Union textile minister Giriraj Singh, requesting the resumption of cotton sales at Cotton Corporation of India (CCI) centres, which were halted due to Aadhaar authentication failures. He also urged the minister to facilitate the purchase of chilies through NAFED, as farmers are facing heavy losses due to falling international prices and are in an agitated mood.
The minister also met the representatives of Texport Industries Private Limited, who updated the minister on the construction of a `60-crore textile unit in the Rajanna Sircilla district. Addressing various textile industry representatives, he emphasised the need for skill training, value addition to handloom products and increased demand through strategic marketing. He also instructed officials to collaborate with e-commerce platforms and analyse social media-driven marketing strategies. Textile department principal secretary Shailaja Ramiyer stated that the upcoming textile units are expected to generate 2,000 jobs, particularly for women. She added that the Sircilla unit aims to export textiles worth ₹270 crore.
