iGrain India - The procurement of Kharif pulses and oilseeds under the Price Support Scheme (PSS) is currently ongoing, with government agencies purchasing crops from farmers at the Minimum Support Price (MSP). The crops being procured include moong, urad, soybean, groundnut, and sunflower, while the procurement of tur (tuvar) and sesame has not yet begun.
As of November 18, 2024, the total procurement figures for the current Kharif marketing season stand as follows:
- Moong: 55,000 tonnes
- Urad: 14 tonnes
- Tuvar: 0 tonnes (procurement to begin later)
- Soybean: 83,000 tonnes
- Groundnut: 7,000 tonnes
- Sunflower: 2,000 tonnes
The government has set an ambitious target of procuring 66.05 lakh tonnes of pulses and oilseeds for this season, broken down into specific targets for each crop:
- Moong: 2.83 lakh tonnes
- Urad: 8.20 lakh tonnes
- Tuvar: 4.91 lakh tonnes
- Soybean: 32.24 lakh tonnes
- Groundnut: 17.47 lakh tonnes
- Sunflower: 13,000 tonnes
- Sesame: 26,000 tonnes
The procurement is still far behind the target. The states where procurement has been carried out are as follows:
- Moong: Karnataka (22,000 tonnes), Telangana (1,000 tonnes), Rajasthan (33,000 tonnes), Maharashtra (7 tonnes)
- Urad: Rajasthan (14 tonnes)
- Soybean: Madhya Pradesh (33,000 tonnes), Telangana (33,000 tonnes), Maharashtra (13,000 tonnes), Rajasthan (3,000 tonnes), Karnataka (600 tonnes), Gujarat (200 tonnes)
- Groundnut: Gujarat (6,800 tonnes), Rajasthan (21 tonnes)
- Sunflower: Karnataka (2,137 tonnes)
The MSPs for these crops are as follows:
- Moong: Rs 8,682 per quintal
- Urad: Rs 7,400 per quintal
- Tuvar: Rs 7,550 per quintal
- Soybean: Rs 4,892 per quintal
- Groundnut: Rs 6,783 per quintal
- Sunflower: Rs 7,280 per quintal
Given that the procurement has just started, it is expected to pick up pace as the harvest continues.
