The Spanish government has selected a shortlist of 16 green hydrogen projects that qualify for grants from the €1.2bn ($1.25bn) “Hydrogen Valleys” programme, which aims to fund large-scale production and usage within the country.
The subsidy scheme requires projects have 100MW or more of electrolyser capacity, with at least 60% of renewable H2 production covered by pre-contractual offtake commitments.
The shortlist includes the second 200MW phase of BP’s Castellón project, Repsol’s 100MW electrolyser in Cartagena and 150MW facility in Tarragona, Cepsa’s first 400MW phase of the Andalusian Green Hydrogen Valley, and Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners’ 500MW Project Catalina.
