Sugar export to Afghanistan rises 2,244pc

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s exports to Afghanistan have increased by 42 percent after the federal government allowed sugar export.

During the first five months of current fiscal year, Pakistan’s exports to Afghanistan increased by 42 percent and sugar exports to Afghanistan hiked by 2,244pc during the same period.

Exports to Afghanistan increased by 17 percent on annual basis in November 2024, and sugar exports accounted for the largest share of Pakistani exports to Afghanistan in the first five months of current fiscal year.

According to sources, Pakistani exports to Afghanistan in July-November 2024 were $578.7 million and $408.8 million in the same period last year. Exports in November 2024 were $128.5 million and in November 2023 $110 million.

Sources said sugar exports to Afghanistan in July-November 2024 were $138.9 million and $5.9 million in the same period last year. The federal cabinet has granted permission to export 750,000 metric tons sugar from June 2024 to date.
