WASHINGTON, DC, US — US ethanol industry leaders signed an agreement with the largest petroleum distributor in Vietnam that recognizes the economic, environmental, human health and energy security benefits of increasing the use of ethanol in transportation fuel mixes.
The US ethanol leaders said the agreement is a first step toward building Vietnam’s capacity to leverage fuel ethanol and deepens bilateral economic cooperation and trade between the countries. Signing the agreement with Petrolimex were representatives from the US Grains Council, Growth Energy and the Renewable Fuels Association.
“The US ethanol industry is excited to work with the leaders in Vietnam to bolster Petrolimex’s and Vietnam’s fuel ethanol supply chain and infrastructure,” the groups said.
The agreement will help Petrolimex align its business with the government of Vietnam’s recent directive to promote the implementation of greater ethanol usage in the country.
The Vietnam Ministry of Industry & Trade in December 2024 signed into law a directive aiming to boost fuel ethanol utilization across the country. The directive outlines steps and measures for industry and government stakeholders to promote fuel ethanol, develop new pricing mechanisms for ethanol-blended gasoline and weigh potential policy actions related to the expanded use of fuel ethanol.
