USDA: Corn use for fuel ethanol production at 440 million bushels in September

The USDA recently released its Grain Crushings and Co-Products Production report for November, reporting that corn use for fuel ethanol production in September was up 3% when compared to the same month of last year. 

Total corn consumed for alcohol and other uses was 490 million bushels in September, down 8% when compared to the previous month, but up 3% from September 2023. September usage included 91.9% for alcohol and 8.1% for other purposes. 

Corn consumed for fuel alcohol was at 440 million bushels in September, down 8% when compared to August, but up 3% when compared to September of last year. Corn consumed for dry milling and wet milling fuel production was at 91.5% and 8.5%, respectively. 

At dry mills, condensed distillers solubles production fell to 95,091 tons in September, down from both 97,561 tons the previous month and 104,989 tons in September 2023. Corn oil production was at 184,442 tons, down from 196,556 tons in August, but up from 174,346 tons in September of last year. Distillers dried grains production fell to 365,238 tons, down from 390,794 tons the previous month and 370,584 tons in September of the previous year. Distillers dried grains with solubles production reached nearly 1.8 million tons, down from nearly 2 million tons the previous month, but up from 1.72 million tons in September 2023. Distillers wet grains production fell to 1.15 million tons, down from 1.23 million tons in August and 1.31 million tons in September of last year. Modified distillers wet grains production fell to 372,632 tons, down from 377,207 tons the previous month and 390,670 tons in September 2023. 

A wet mills, corn germ meal production expanded to 63,789 tons in September, up from 61,668 tons the previous month and 54,432 tons in September of last year. Corn gluten feed production was at 273,303 tons, down from 291,428 tons in August, but up from 246,782 tons in September 2023. Corn gluten meal production was at 111,744 tons, down from 116,255 tons the previous month, but up from 107,988 tons in September of the previous year. Wet corn gluten feet production fell to 174,070 tons, down from both 1941,305 tons in August and 196,264 tons in September 2023. 

At dry and wet mills, carbon dioxide captured was at 245,884 tons in September, down from 271,130 tons in August, but up from 203,013 tons in September 2023.
