USDA: US ethanol exports top 198 million gallons in January

The U.S. exported 198.05 million gallons of ethanol and 811,480 metric tons of distillers grains in January, according to data released by the USDA Foreign Agricultural Service on March 6. Ethanol exports were up for the month, while distillers grains exports were down.

The 198.05 million gallons of ethanol exported in January was up when compared to both the 194.42 million gallons exported the previous month and the 149.97 million gallons exported in January 2023. 

The U.S. exported ethanol to more than 40 countries in January. Canada was the top destination for U.S. ethanol exports during the month at 53.86 million gallons, followed by India at 35.11 million gallons and the Netherlands at 21.07 million gallons.  

The value of U.S. ethanol exports was at $420.12 million in January, down slightly from $421.66 million in December, but up from $338.54 million in January of the previous year. 

The 811,480 metric tons of distillers graine exported in January was down when compared to the 1.06 million metric tons exported the previous month and the 902,376 metric tons exported in January 2023. 

The U.S. exported distillers grains to approximately 29 countries in January. Mexico was the top destination for U.S. distillers grains exports at 229,331 metric tons, followed by South Korea at 105,644 metric tons and Vietnam at 93,606 metric tons. 

The value of U.S. distillers grains exports was $195.93 million in January, down from $282.97 million in December and $254.78 million in January 2023.
