Tokyo Metropolitan Government is to trial a green hydrogen double auction this month, which will see sales and purchase prices determined through separate bidding, with the price gap between the two covered by city taxpayers.
The trial — which mimics the H2Global auction system introduced in Germany — will begin this Friday (6 December) with the supply-side bidding, followed by the purchaser auction on 18 December.
While H2Global has already held supply-side auctions, the organisation has yet to host any bidding on the purchasing side, allowing Tokyo to reasonably claim a world first for such a programme.
